Richard Jones won the Even Tournament of the Hastings and St Leonards Chess Club in the  Autumn of 1884, together with the captaincy of the club for 1885. He won the club championship in 1885 and 1889. Here is a  photo of the Sussex club members assembled on 5th May 1886 playing in the Sussex v Surrey match played at The Royal Pavillion Brighton, including Richard Jones.
