Marshall did not travel due to flu. Bogdan arrived Sat evening to be able to play and Jim stood down. Bogdan agreed a draw in an equal middlegame.Howard had a comfortable win as did Nicolas.Francis was always better in a tight game. Johns opponent sacced a piece for counterplay and his pressure paid off winning back the piece with a pawn to the good. John could win this back by force, so accepted the draw offer. Hastings won the toss and played white on odds.

I should have won but misplayed an ending missing a 3 fold repetition. Nicolas won and departed. John and Howard p;layed solid draws. Brendan did not hear their capt. saying do not start Russells clock, so he asked Jim who also had not heard who told Brenden to start Russells clock. After Russell was about to drop a bishop he complained that his clock should not have been started (too late-Russell should have insisted at the start of his game that the clocks be restored. Jerry should have made sure our player gave Russell 15 mins grace before starting his clock) . As the match was then won Jim agreed a draw in a winning position as both only had 3 mins left..

club’s opening times

Due to the recent death of Mr Roy Bourne it has been necessary to review the club’s opening times for the week commencing 8 January for this week only The Clubs opening hours will remain 1PM to 10 PM. However, the club will only be unlock at two o’clock unless it has been prearranged by a member to open the club at 1pm
the club will close at six pm unless it has been prearranged by a member for the club to remain open longer
if any member requires the use of the club between 1 PM and 2 PM or after 6 PM they must contact the chairman to ensure this is available to them 24 hours in a advance, otherwise you may well find that the club is not open.
I apologised to the inconvenience but as you will appreciate, security is important and with nobody on hand to open or close the club, it is a massive inconvenience to the people having to do it
these arrangements will be reviewed at the next committee meeting on 15 January

Mr Roy Bourne

It is with much regret. I have to inform the membership of the death Of our housekeeper Mr Roy Bourne
Roy died on 1 January and was found in his flat on the evening of 2 January
Roy was 61 although yet to be determined it appears he died of natural causes
Roy as been the housekeeper of the club for approximately 8 years taking over from his wife when she died she the had been housekeeper for approximately 15 years and before that a long-time member
Roy carried out his duties for the club in a quiet, unassuming way but failing health in recent years did make that sometimes sporadic.
I’m sure all the club members will have their own memories of Roy and I will keep you informed to what the arrangements are for his funeral
needless to say I’m sure he will be missed by all  as another chapter in the club’s history closes
